Speaking on Saturday during a conversation on 𝕏 Spaces, the former Rivers State governor threw an open challenge to his critics.
“I challenge any politician, living or dead, to come forward and say I was part of rigging,” he said.
Naija News reports that Amaechi alleged that electoral malpractice in Nigeria often involves state governors and the diversion of public funds through government agencies.
He vowed never to be part of such acts, insisting that if elected president in 2027, his administration would focus on ending election rigging.
“I will never participate in any rigging whatsoever, and I will not do it. What I promise to do now, going forward, is to stop rigging,” he said.
Amaechi maintained his readiness to apologise if anyone could provide evidence linking him to electoral fraud.
“I challenge any Nigerian to produce evidence that I participated in any election rigging, and I will apologise for that,” he said.
The former minister also restated his willingness to serve only one term if elected president in 2027 on the platform of the African Democratic Congress.
On July 3, he had revealed that he would step down after four years to allow for rotational leadership between the North and South.
“For now, the way Nigeria is, you must keep to that unwritten agreement that says south eight years, north eight years,” he said.
