As the Sturgis rally comes to a close, law enforcement agencies assess the crimes – Dakota News Now

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – With just three days before the end of the 85th Sturgis Rally, the calls for service don’t stop.
According to the Meade County Sheriff’s Office, from 6 a.m. Thursday to 6 a.m. Friday, there were 152 calls for service, six DUI arrests, 14 drug charges, eight simple assaults, and a felony DUI, raising the total calls for service to 1,257.
β€œStill, our number one calls seem to be for disturbances or fights. We’ve seen a lot more of that indicative of later in the rally with the heat, people getting tired and crabby when they can’t go anywhere, and then they start adding alcohol to that, it’s a volatile mixture,” Sturgis Police Chief Geody VanDewater said.
Vandewater says the numbers are right on par for this time of year and they will keep a strong presence throughout the rest of the rally.
