Naija News recalls that Eno, who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the APC in June, was a political protégé of Emmanuel, who had handed over power to him in 2023 after completing his tenure.
However, Eno explained that his defection to the APC was in the interest of the state.
Speaking in the Eket area of the state during a pro-APC rally on Monday, Eno dismissed the possibility of any rift between them.
Governor Eno stated that his move to the APC was aimed at drawing the attention of President Bola Tinubu.
He said, “Let me make it abundantly clear that there is no issue between me and my political father, former governor Udom Emmanuel. There is no issue whatsoever.
“I visit him, I talk with him, and we are still together. I am his political son. He brought me out to run for governor.
“And so, he will always earn our respect, our support, and I’d like to make that assurance.”
Meanwhile, the President of the Nigerian Senate, Godswill Akpabio, recently handed over the political structure of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State to Governor Umo Eno.
Naija News reports that the event took place at the Akwa Ibom Government House Banquet Hall in Uyo, where Akpabio declared Eno as the new leader of the ruling party in the state.
“I want to formally hand over the APC structure in Akwa Ibom to the new leader of the party in the state,” Akpabio announced.
“By symbolically handing over the broom that will sweep away poverty, underdevelopment, and disunity from Akwa Ibom.”
The statement drew loud applause from party faithful and stakeholders gathered at the eve
