The Wings complex in Victoria Island was home to the Lagos fashion crowd last night for Day1 of the Lagos Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2018 Presentations. Opening the 3-day event were Gozel Green, Mo Agusto, and IAMISIGO.
Though the show started an hour late, it was great to explore the venue before the first show with Gozel Green and catch some BTS moments while the moments rehearsed. The LFW x Fetswallet Retail space was also a great way to kill time.
I got to see and feel pieces by Ré Lagos, Wild Magnolia, Gozel Green, Emmy Kasbit and the limited edition IF Collection by Davido & Orange Culture.
I was pleased to also learn that the popular IF t-shirt was on sale for N8,000! 🙂
With a chai iced tea latte from My Coffee in hand and bottle of water in case of thirst later, I sat front row with my friend Arinola Fagbemi, a buyer for Alara and waited for the first show to start. We were given order sheets just in case we were interested in making any purchases right off the runway. I thought this was a great addition, mostly because our designers must not be kept hungry! Buy Nigerian. Buy African!
The Gozel Green show was a great presentation of the brand’s unusual style. Prominent colours in their palette aside from neutrals were green and red, a combination we’ve realized is a favourite for the fashion house.
For makeup, the Maybelline New York team headed by Bimpe Onakoya went for really bold eyebrows and fresh dewy skin.
I personally wasn’t very interested in the footwear but, here it is…
Next was Mo Agusto, a Lagos Fashion Week Fashion Focus Winner. I especially looked forward to her presentation and it was pleased with the femininity of the collection, especially her use of AsoOke which added a bit of sparkle to the collection underneath the runway lights.
Out with the bold brows and in with the bold lips. The models kept the fresh faced looks from the previous show but came out with bold red lips for Mo Agusto this time.
IAMISIGO transported me to another realm with her choice of music, hair, and makeup.
The collection for me was a mix of seasons, Autumn/Winter layers and jackets with Spring Summer pastel colours. In the literal sense, we don’t have Autumn/Winter here in Nigeria so this collection was a great way to marry both fashion seasons/cultures from Africa and the West.
I also loved the collaboration with Shekudo for footwear, read our interview with her here.
Look out for our full review of the collections by fashion writer extraordinaire and former BN Style EAL, Mazzi Odu.
