Nigerian doctor and hyper-realism artist Fola David has set a new Guinness World Record, GWR, for the largest drawing by an individual.
The Lagos-based visual artist, who aimed to draw 1000 square metres of art that will showcase Nigeria’s diverse cultures, began the six-day attempt on July 16 at Onikan Stadium.
On Friday night, in a now-trending post on social media, he wrote: “Congratulations to us all. On Day 4 at 9 pm, we broke the current record of 629.98 square metres, but we are not done! As the goal is to get over 1000 square metres of canvas covered in drawings; we are currently at 689 square metres. Let’s Go!”
Notable Nigerians who have visited David include the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi; former GWR holder Hilda Baci; and Farooq Oreagba, the businessman who stole the show at the 2024 Ojude Oba Festival, among others.
The management of the College of Medicine University of Lagos, CMUL, also visited David, an alumnus of the college, to show their support.
